Seadoo states: If using an 06+ head on an 05 and older block you must remove the check valve in the block. You can update the oiling system to a 06+ by removing check valve in block and running an 06+ rocker shaft. The rocker shaft is now the restrictor.

OK, I think photos will help illustrate the issue.

    1. To run a 2006+ head with a 2005 and earlier block, you must remove the oil check valve/restrictor in the block, nothing else is needed.
    2. To run a 2005 head with a 2006+ block, you must use a 2006 rocker shaft; nothing else is needed.

You cannot kludge together a 2006+ head on a 2005 block by using a 2005 rocker shaft, without removing the check valve in the block. The oiling passages in the 2006 head are wrong.

The first photo shows 2005 and 2006 heads together. Note that the 2005 head has three oil passages to feed the rocker shaft, whereas the 2006 has only one.

The second photo shows the oil tube that feeds the three passages. The blue arrow shows where the oil enters the head, the red arrow points to the screw that caps the end of the feed tube that is drilled 2/3 the length of the head to feed the extra passages that lead to the rocker shaft on the 2005 head. This thick tube is cast the same on the 2006+ heads, but it is not drilled the 2/3 length; it simply ends at the first oil feed hole.

Ok I was checking this out 06 head does have different passages from the 04-05. The jet in the block is the restrictor for 04-05, the rocker arm is the restrictor for the 06+. Now the difference in the rocker shaft from 06 to the past style is the single 2 mm hole which is the restrictor portion and the lack of the other 2 holes in the shaft. The 04-05 rocker shaft has 3 holes that are supplying oil. So looking at this I say if you run an older block with a 06+ head the jet has to come out with either the 06 rocker or the 04-05 rocker due to one the restrictor in the 06 or two due to the added flow needed to supply the cam cause the other 2 passages aren't there. Hope this is a correct assumption.

Where exactly is this check valve in the block? Do you have to split the cases to remove it?

It's on the top of the block right at the mating surface of the head and block. Look at the lower left corner of my avatar. It's in the hole directly below the head bolt in the pic
