How about a pressure activated by pass valve in parallel with the strainer?

If the strainer clogs, the increased pressure differential between inlet and outlet would force open the bypass, and you would still have water cooling. Not at full pressure/flow, but enough to allow you to keep the engine running.

Are there strainers with an integrated pressure bypass?

I'll be putting one on my ski very soon.
I have had my ski since new in 06' - is there a way to check and clean out the stock intercooler since I never knew about this before therefore never installed?

Turbo Tech does have one sweet a$$ looking ski.

So normal lake riding on say a 06 GTX limited, will it catch grit and grime? We don't have a lot of trash in the lake, I just bought a groco...

Groco or PPG, both are Fine, I have seen PPG one blow the clear cap right off, and have seen some Groco's crack. The Groco is far stronger than the PPG one, but its strong enough.

But its far better to have one than not. Damage causing failure is usually from abuse removing the cap to clean them.

Now, one thing to mention, IF you winterize your ski, NEVER LET ANTIFREEZE touch the filters, the clear plastic will turn white and opaque.
