    Looks like it's official...

Army Picks Sig Sauer's P320 Handgun to Replace M9 Service Pistol

The U.S. Army on Thursday awarded Sig Sauer a contract worth $580 million to make the next service pistol based on the company's P320 handgun.

Sig Sauer beat out Glock Inc., FN America and Beretta USA, the maker of the current M9 9mm service pistol, in the competition for the Modular Handgun System, or MHS, program.

"We are both humbled and proud that the P320 was selected by the U.S. Army as its weapon of choice," Ron Cohen, chief executive officer of Sig Sauer, said in a statement to Military.com here at SHOT Show, the world's largest gun show, taking place this week in the city.

"Securing this contract is a testimony to Sig Sauer employees, their commitment to innovation, quality and manufacturing the most reliable firearms in the world," Cohen added.

The Army launched its long-awaited XM17 MHS competition in late August 2015 to replace its Cold War-era M9 9mm pistol.

"By maximizing full and open competition across our industry partners, we have optimized private sector advancements in handguns, ammunition and magazines, and the end result will ensure a decidedly superior weapon system for our warfighters," Army Acquisition Executive Steffanie Easter said said in a press release.

Today is John Moses Browning’s birthday. Celebrate responsibly.

John Moses Browning was the most famous and competent gunmaker the world has ever known. He was the son of Jonathan Browning, himself a highly competent gunsmith, and Elizabeth Clark.

John Moses was born January 23, 1855 in Ogden, Utah, U.S.A., where his father settled after the Mormon Exodus of 1847. It was in his father’s shop that John Moses first learned the art and secrets of gunsmithing.

John Moses, however, was much more than a gunsmith in the sense that he was much more interested in designing and building new, innovative, firearms than repairing broken ones. His first creation was a single shot rifle he built at the age of 14 for his brother, Matt.

Guns, Geeks, and the best Mlok rail system

Simple intuitive, and innovative, the nest Mlok rail system at Shot

So what makes it the best MLok rail system? The fact that it attaches and detaches in an instant.

Who doesn’t love a quick detach mount scope? The same can and does apply to rail sections. I call it the best MLok rail system, but Kinetic calls it Kinect Mlok. Get it? It’s a play on words. You know Kinetic and Kinect and Kinect is like…. Well you get it.

Easy California Compliance with Franklin Armory’s New DFM Magazines

Franklin Armory is showing off their new solution for California AR-15 compliance. Starting this year bullet buttons are no longer an acceptable solution to keep a magazine from being easily replaced and so a number of companies are coming up with ways to keep their AR-15 rifles as close to “stock” as possible while still complying with the law. Franklin Armory probably has the easiest solution on the market with their new magazine.

The trick here are the lips on the back of the magazine. Instead of inserting the magazine from the bottom, the magazine is inserted from the top of the lower receiver and the lops on the back prevent it from moving any further down or ejecting. In this configuration the upper receiver needs to be pivoted up to access the magazine to reload which is annoying enough to make California happy.

The DFM magazines retail for $24.99 on their website.

    Great comment from the article:

"How about California complying with the US constitution instead?"
