04 RXP RPM Numbers Dropping!!!
Hey all..i have a 04 rxp and up untill about a week or so ago i was able to peg it out to around 8100 rpms will stayin in the water...recently i have noticed that my rpm levels have decreased to topping out at 7900 and im sure that i am loosing speed...whats the deal with this? Will my ski decrease in performance the more i have it as far as rpm peak and mph and even mpg? I have the extended warranty also and wasn't sure if anything could be done to fix my rpm loss.. Thanks, rxpman100

7900 isnt too bad for a stock RXP running in the heat. A Riva Power Filter may help you get back some of those R's though.

might i also add.... my Idle RPMS and top speed RPMs both drop when i'm due for a wear ring.
my wear ring does not get pitted and destroyed... but usual wear and tear from sand, salt, vegetation, etc....
when the clearance betwee the prop and wear ring widens, it's my belief that you lose some RPMs.
example.... usually idle at 1800 rpms..... with a biger clearance due to old wear ring, my idle RPMS are 1700, 1750, 1800
top speed rpms ALWAYS pegged at 8100... when wear ring gets a bigger clearance it's 7950, 8000
anyone else have the belief that a crappy wear ring will slightly reduce RPMS? or am i making that up?

It's been my experience as well that a worn wear ring reduced my RPM's

In the ded heat of the summer your RPMs will drop. Last summer July and Aug I saw 7700rpms and did not see 8100-8150 untill Late August, early in the morning or late in the eveing. Now In July with the same time as last year I am seeing 7950-8000 with the riva air intake and my speeds this weekend with a full tank was 69.3 on gps. Another reason could be your wearring. Get a shop light and put it under the ski around the grate and look from the back (Stearing) and see how much light around the impeller you can see. The more light the more RPMs you are lossing. also look for big nicks and deep groves. Another think that cn mack you lose RPMs is a slipping cluch. Use my cheep methond of checking your cluch that I posted late last night on this Forum. "Quick check of RXP, and RXP SC cluch." Both methods will only take about 20 mi.

Shib,
I have noticed the same thing. Slightly worn wear ring kills RPM's.
