It seems like Rotax Racing would mention in their instruction for installing the Rotax Racing ECU that if you have an 04 model and have had the knock sensor update that you MUST remove the piggy back harness from the knock sensor. This would prevent LOTS of problems.
Glad you found your problem Peter and nice numbers too!!!

Jack, did you have the knock sensor update done to your ski when it was still equipped with the stock ECU? If so you need to remove the piggy back harness off of the knock sensor connector.

Well, if you didn't bring it to your dealer to have the knock sensor update done then im sure it wasn't done therefore its not your problem.

did the factory do any recalls in house in 2004 or could my dealer do it at the first service in 2004?

It is a distint possibility that your dealer did it in 04 before it was sold to you. An easy way to determine this is to check to make sure there isnt a piggy back harness plugged in between the main harness and knock sensor connector. See the link above for where its located and what it looks like. If it is in place remove it and plug the main harness directly into the knock sensor connector.
