stupid question !!!! sorry
i just order my R & D grate for my p-x ..
after reading around .. the guys have said that i will have some cavitation from the hole
what is cavitation ??
how can i fix this or prevent it
does anyone know the mph gains with r&d on p-x
thanks

Cavitation is when the impeller sucks air instead of water. When that happens, you loose acceleration. Just like popping the clutch and the wheels spin. The cure is to just feather the throttle instead of going WFO. Then, set the trim down to maximize acceleration and trim up once you're on plane. It just takes a little practice to see what's right for your ski and the weight (you and the gas) it's carrying... Ron

Cavitation is a pressure differential between the intake and output of the prop which forms a air pocket and the proessure from the surrounding water causing it to collaspe creating bubbles and so on. This can ooccur when there is damage to the blades or when the prop is spinning faster and can't move enough water across the propulsion path.

apparently the riva one does the same thing. i have the r&d. my mechanic and i were testing it and we thought for the t-x to reduce cavitation it would be a good idea to try cut the wings off. so that more water can get sucked in at the holeshot.

Well technically, cavitation is not "sucking air". Cavitation occurs when the impeller can not move water. Aeration is when air is introduced into the stream. Often the results can feel the same. Aeration has little detrimental effect on the impeller, just a loss of thrust. Cavitation is the result of extremely high vacuum pressures causing vaporization at the surface of the impeller & can cause errosion to the metal - very bad.
Someone more technical than I can elaborate and correct me, but think that is the gist of it.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again (looking for comments)...
Looks to me like the only "good" way to go is to cut the wings off of the stock grate and drill the holes up through the grate/ride plate tab/pump shoe. Beachbum and some others have seen the same 2.5mph-3mph gain from just cutting the wings (and then overstuffing since they didn't drill the holes).

My Riva Intake Grate does not cavitate at all. It just sucks 73 MPH worth of water really well.
