XP steering cable restore or replace help
I may need to replace the steering cable on my xpdi
It was stuck but with a lot of effort rigging, beating and lubing, it now moves but it's tight. I disconnected both ends, tied a hose on top and filled with penetrating oil, replacing the level as it seeped in for a couple days. I rigged a piece of metal to the back end to beat it back and forth and it got moving. I tried to force some cable lube in it but that didn't work. I hooked it back up and tried working it some with the bars and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.
Next I would like to try hooking a drill to the end of it and see if that helps it but I'm not sure which way the cable is wound. Turning one way may help but turning the wrong way would probably unwind and ruin it.
Does anyone know which way I could safely turn the cable from the rear?
If this does not work I will replace it.
If I need to replace I would like to fish it through when I pull the old one out.
Would the direction front to rear or rear to front matter or be easier?
Please help or I'll have to dust off the 96 for this weekend

When your out riding & the cable breaks you will feel like a real cheapskate for not replacing it to begin with.
Do it once do it right.

Did anyone ever take one appart?
It doesn't seem like it will pull through like a normal cable.
If I replace it I would take it appart to see what is so special about it.
This must be defective because I have not had to replace any in the other seadoos I've owned and they all get the same treatment.
I'm willing to purchase one but not for an arm and leg; I was thinking more like a toe or finger should be enough.

Can this be fished through or is it tied down under the gas tank?
I found a used one for $70 and I can pick it up on my way to the beach this weekend (2.5 hr drive). There not a Seadoo dealer but a repair place and from the way they were talking it sounds like a lot more work than I would want to do on the road. If I need to pull the seat and tank out I would leave it for when I come back from Vacation. I can bring the 96xp to jump with but I like this one more for where I'm going.
Can the new one be tied to the old one and just pulled through into place?
