    Surf Rescue and CPR classes in Half Moon Bay on June 28-29

    Surf Rescue and CPR Classes in Half Moon Bay on Saturday & Sunday, June 28 & 29, 2008

    SurfPulse announces Surf Rescue and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) class and benefit to be held June 28-29, 2008 in Half Moon Bay, CA. Proceeds from the event will benefit the local non-profit organization, Coastside Hope Community Assistance Center (www.coastsidehope.com).
    SurfPulse and fellow sponsors- Pillar Point Harbor District, Half Moon Bay Fire Department, Event Savvy (www.eventsavvysf.com), K38 Water Safety (www.K38rescue.com), Liquid Militia Core Wear (www.LiquidMilitia.com), Surfco Hawaii (www.surfcohawaii.com), ZunaSurf (www.zunasurf.com), and the International Jet Sports Boating Association (www.ijsba.com) - will hold a Surf Rescue and CPR class the weekend of June 28-29, 2008 in Half Moon Bay, CA.

    Participants have the option to take the complete 2-day course or the following segments:
    • 1) Surf Rescue, which includes how to assist conscious and unconscious victims in the water, help them to shore, stabilize a spinal injury, and other water rescue techniques;

      2) American Heart Association's "Friends and Family CPR," which teaches the Chain of Survival for adults, children, and infants, as well as the signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, and choking;

      3) American Heart Association's "Heartsaver CPR is slightly more extensive than "Friends and Family CPR" and includes a course completion card for those that pass the written exam; or

      4) Students may take "Surf Rescue" and either "Friends and Family CPR" or "Heartsaver CPR."
    The skills taught in these classes are excellent for surfers and other ocean enthusiasts to learn and refresh critical ocean safety skills. Learn basic life saving techniques to use on land and in the ocean. Students will learn hands-on ocean rescue techniques from professional water rescuers of Pillar Point Harbor, HMB Fire Dept., and K38 Water Safety. These instructors have done countless water rescues in dangerous surf conditions, including at Maverick’s. There will be at least one surprise/special guest that will share some tips and actual rescue stories. Also, participants and instructors will be invited to a dinner/party after the Saturday class.
    Surfers are often involved in ocean rescues, and they're often the first people on the scene. However, having some basic rescue knowledge and skills can make the difference between you saving someone's life… and possibly endangering your own. Get prepared!

    Anyone know if you can take the online cpr courses like cprtoday and still have it count for the personal training certification by American Red Cross CPR Training? Thanks
