Polaris virage 2001
Ok you guys that own Polaris virages may already know where this is heading.
I bought this boat back in 2001. worked great for about a year. then the problems started to role in. I had it under warranty, so I just kept sending it back... untill polaris stoped making boats. Polaris isn't much help either. Every time we talk to them they are kinda rude like (this was a bad design but maybe if were
so the problem.
It runs for about 45 minutes to an hour and then dies. I'm not sure how to fix that.I'm positive its electrical.
I've been reading around. In fact i've been reading so much my brain is completly confused now.
Do i need a new box?
Is there a newer box?
Stator? where would i buy a cheap one?
Is something Heating up thats not suppose to due to a bad design?
Should i pull out a sodering gun and start going mad? (not really im trying to fix this here)
this may not be enough information for you guys so please if you could be like microsoft and ask me general questions about the problem im pretty sure i could answer.Last edited by keaft; 06-12-2008 at 12:57 PM. Reason: spelling error

Which exact model Virage do you have;
Fuel injected or carbs?
Two or three cylinder?
Which model year (last two digits of the HIN number)?
Have you put a meter on the battery, and monitored the voltage when it is running?
Should be about 14 volts when running, and should jump to 14 volts right after it starts.
Engine RPM should not have a big effect on the voltage.

ok it is carberated.
I heard that the start\stop button can have a problem deciding whether to be on or off if it gets too hot.
I was thinking of bypassing it and just making it a start button so that it wouldn't have to decide.
After 30 minutes to an hour it just quits for no reason.
I just bought this battery new.

"After 30 minutes to an hour it just quits for no reason"
This issue has nothing to do with the start/stop module.
Time to bring a meter to the lake and do some stator tests......But first i would try a timing light and when it dies clip the light on and see if it flashes. No flash....time to test the igntion system.

The update kit may apply to your situation. Others who know more may chime in.
Since you have 14.x volts when running, and the battery is new, what makes you think it is not charging properly?

Nope, not looking for Mod status
I don't think I am in the same league as Al; 10,000+ posts, and WAY more knowledge, experience, and connections.
Some days I have some time to try to help, some times I don't.
Hopefully I am making positive contributions when I post.
I received a lot of help here when I was getting started with this stuff, and I am still learning!
