Thread: 780 vs 785

I am not exactly sure if this is the right place or not, but here goes...
I am doing some casual research to learn everything I can about Polaris skis, especially the 780s and 785s, and was wondering about something...is the 785 actually a 785cc engine, or is it still a 780cc engine, with the 5cc added to it to differentiate it from the regular SLX780s? If it is a 785cc engine, what was done to the 780 to get the extra 5ccs?
Thanks in advance!

The 785 is 779cc. It is a 750 bore with an extra 3mm stroke. It has exhaust valves and triple pipes and spins at 7800 rpm

Well, you can start by looking at the 1992-1998 Service Manual, and the PRO supplement.
The PRO 785 engine was a significant development from the base Fuji engines, and many things were changed. I think only a few moving parts interchange between the PRO and the 780.
The PRO785 guys will be along soon, I am sure.
Why have you focussed on those two Fuji models?

Thanks!
Yea, I downloaded the manual last night, and have just now started to read through it. I hope to get all the way through it (for the first time) in the next day or so, and will read as much data as I can get my hands on, or eyes on as it were.
They are just 2 of the 3 that I really like, with the 3rd being the '97 SL1050 (white/yllow). I like the look and feel of them, the hull and deck design, the performance, and things like that. I like to keep everything I have visually stock, and the '96 SLX780, red/black PRO785, & white/yellow SL1050 are my favorites in the style department...as well as being excellent performers.
I want to learn about all of the Fuji/Domestic engines, and all of the different boats, but want to put most of my learning on the ones I like, which will be the ones I am going to be dealing with.

the pipes, exh.valves, bigger carbs, better timing (cdi)--made for a huge gain in power ...from around 90-95 HP to about 130-140HP ,,,,huge leap for a 2 stoke power gain,,,BUT it(the motor) has no soft side to it.
it has 3 speeds idle, lean back ready to go, and haul assssssssss
refered to as (a light switch throttle) fast or slow you pick witch one you like
i have wantded to put a 750 or 780 top end on a 785 bottom and crank
but dont want to risk the pricy(785)parts----i think that would be a mini monster there

Sweet, my kind of ski! I grew up riding 2-stroke dirtbikes, and raced competitively from '83-'94 (motocross & supercross), so I know my way around a 2-stroke engine...and like a very pipey engine (stop or wfo)!
