Sudden power loss
On my first time out this season my 2007 Ultra was running great...for a while. After getting to 7850 RPM's there was a sudden total loss of power followed by continuing hesitations upon acceleration attempts.
Continuing efforts to accelerate eventually smoothed out the hesitations but the maximum RPM's dropped to 7750+/-.
The Ski now runs smoothly but maximum RPM's are down. All recalls have been done. 15 hours on a stock Ski with a wedge.
Any ideas about the cause of the problem and possible fixes?
I hope every had a safe and fun Memorial Day. The water at Lake Cumberland Kentucky was 67 degrees but the weather was great!
Thanks in advance for your help and ideas.Last edited by larryhood; 05-26-2008 at 09:00 PM.

Try replacing the plugs. It sounds as though your having one go out on you.

plugs
Have you used the cr9ek plugs, in your ski yet? They good enough to run for awhile or just to get you out of a bind? I was going to go to the dealer and pick up a set. Was running around 7300-7500 RPMs yesterday. I figured it would be wise to keep a set in my ski just incase.

The Ski now has cr9ek plugs that replaced the original plugs at about 6 hours. My dealer gave me new OEM plugs when the recalls were done and I will change to those asap.
COULD A BAD PLUG CAUSE THE ULTRA THAT WAS PERFORMING WELL @7850 RPM'S TO LOSE POWER COMPLETELY,THEN GO THROUGH A PERIOD OF HESITATION AND THEN RETURN TO SMOOTH OPERATION BUT AT A MAX RPM OF 7750?
This all took place within a 5-10 minute period. I even raced another Ultra after the lower RPM"s and held my own. But, I know that with the original performance of the day I would have performed better.
I'm curious for explanitions...and will change the plugs.
Thanks for the replies.Last edited by larryhood; 05-26-2008 at 08:59 PM.

Plugs going bad do cause a loss of power. Last year, my ski was idling rough and top speed was done about 1-2 mph. Skip helped me out and sold me a set an extra set and overnighted them so I could have them for the weekend. The rough idling was gone and I got my speed back. I haven't tried the other plugs yet, probable won't unless I cant get the regular plugs. I got lucky and found a new set on ebay for $41 for the set of four. Can't beat that. I always keep an extra set in the truck just in case.
