Time to install R&D deep fuel pickup
Hi, can people who have installed the R&D deep fuel pickup on a Ultra 250x please tell me how long it took to install?
My dealer charged me for 17 hours labour for
- Service (previously 2 hours)
- R&D pump wedge (what like 20mins maby?)
- Riva exhuast (the entire exhuast system was already out under warranty so time on this would have been next to nothing)
- R&D deep fuel pickup
I am asking him to explain what they spent all this time on, they said the deep fuel pickup took ages as they had to remove the whole steering system and that whole top cover arround the steering off the ski. However someone else told me they did it without taking all that off and it took them maby 40 minutes...

He is screwing you at 17 hrs.
Ask him how many hours Kawi gives them to change the fuel Filter.
Here is a write up for the fuel pick up. You could have done it your self.

Yeah thanks. i actually printed that write up out and gave it to the dealer with the part when i went to get it installed.
Im just trying to get a average on time different people spent installing it.
Does anyone have a copy of the R&D instruction sheet? Does that say to remove the whole steering system and that cover area?

no need to remove completely, undo the reverse cable at the bucket end, and undo all the bolts, you can get enough room by twisting it sidewats, the r&d instructions and skipps site are spot on.

I did two in about 2 hours and that was with taking pictures. You only need to spin the housing, I never took it completly off. My cowlings were already off so add an hour for both of them off and back on.
2 hours should certainly cover it.

Sounds like you got charged for @ 12 hours to much, If it took a Mechanic 17 hours(2 full 8 hour days +1 hour, he is in the wrong line of work.)..................
When I took my ski in for my stuck ring, they had the whole engine pulled, exhaust, intercooler in 1 1/2 hrs............
