Causes for Cavitation
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone else can give ideas for things to look for that cause cavitation... so far I have the following:
Pump shoe fins
Carbon seal on drive shaft
impeller damage
wear ring
Anyone else want to throw in an idea on what to look for?
I am too having bad cavitation problems and want to start looking for the cause.
Thanks!

You have one of my first ideas listed already.. I had a similar problem, I removed my impeller and sent it back to skat..they called me after they got it and said they would have to add to all the blades being that the impeller was pretty worn, they said it had heavy "cavitation burn". After I reinstalled there was NO cavitiation.

Well since my impeller/ss wear ring are brand new I am doubting its my prop/ring. The mis-alightment with the engine is an idea.

Bad silicone seal between ride plate and hull. Bad silicone seal between pump shoe and hull. Bad rubber seal where jet pump mounts to pump shoe.
Any one of these can let air get sucked in from above ride plate.

I too am now experiencing cavitation, it is either my prop or ss wearring cause I checked everything else and it is fine. has anyone seen a ss wear ring go bad? I've had mine on my ski for about 1 1/2 years.

Hey Dan, I dont think I took to much off as the prop barley fit in and would not even turn smoothly as it was rubbing the ring. I will mesure the gap this week though just in case.
I will check all the seals regarding the silicone.
Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it.

Mine also just started to have cavitation problems. I have a new Solas 14/17R & SS wear ring. Everything looks nornal as far as I can tell. What should I look for? Mine started right after I dry docked it into a tree.
