well if you could gear down an engine why couldn't you gear it up? or use a pretty heavily pitched prop. they produce a ton of torque.
the problem i see is there to heavy so you would need a smaller 2cyl or 3 cyl diesel which i haven't seen a 2cyl. plus diesel fuel is so expensive

Yeah look at the price of diesel fuel per gallon now...

But, diesel engines are far more efficient. I was reading my diesel magazine a month or so ago and they are in the early stages of mounting a 6.6 Duramax in marine applications...with 3x the fuel economy of a 496 CID 8.1 Chevy. So maybe that's what will happen with jetskis....ya never know

"Features like an aluminum block have helped cut 38lbs from the weight of the engine compared to BMW's older four cylinder diesel."
Switch the IC to water to air and lose the DPF (exhaust) and you may have something going...
Not to start another Political debate, but from what Im seeing and reading. Algae based biodiesel and ethanols are right around the corner (1-3years max)... And supposedly the prices are going to come down. all of the auto mfgs have diesels starting this fall
I just like the efficiency factor of this thing... and the fact that its twin (well not really) turbo.

Ethanol is just a pipe dream. I don't see any viable long term use. Raises the cost of everything else way too much. Even the enviromental guys are starting to raise concerns about how much land is being converted over to ethanol production.
As for the diesel, it might work. It will be heavy and you would need to gear it up, but 45 MPG would be awesome.

go for it only one of two things can happen. it will either be really cool or a really expensive mistake.
and theoretically you could run if for free. all you would have to do is set it up for bio diesel and go to your local fast food restrant and take the cooking oil they just throw out and get one of those straining kits and bam you get to go out all day and come home smelling like french friesLast edited by stingray152003; 05-13-2008 at 07:25 AM.

great-id save money on fuel but id be adicted to french frys..
every time i go riding id be looking for a mcDonalds or something.
then what about the problems with obestity these days??
the oil shortage would be solved but now everyone is overweight from the food craving everytime they go for a drive or ride there toy or cut a lawn..
Sounds like a marketing tactic from the fast food chains..
