SS wear ring install problems
Heya everyone, so I froze my new ss wear ring and put it into my stator. It went about 90% in and would not go in anymore... including banging on it with a 2x4 and a hammer.
In my haste to install it from the freezer I did not check the arrow to see if I am installing it in the right direction. If it is not slide in the stator in the right direction will it just not go in all the way? If not any ideas on how I can remove it? I tried pushing it out with a hammer/screwdriver but that is a no go.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ahmed

i never tried to fit wrong way so dont know if it will go in although i cant see why not.
When i had to take one back out i put the pump in the vice with the ring facing down and warmed around the housing with a propane torch and it just slid out and dropped on the floor with not that much heat i guess the alloy expands way faster than the ss ring. When i fitted the ring i did have to hammer it in with a brass hammer so it wasnt a loose fit.

I just installed mine last week. It was a biatch! Froze the ring (in hind sight I should have also heated the pump housing) it was tight going right from the begining. I had the pump housing on a rag on the garage floor and I was hammering on the ring with a 2x4 and a 3lb sledge. It was taking so long I was starting to panic that it was'nt going to go in all the way. By the time it was all the way in I had used two 2x4's, the rag was toast, and my arm felt like a limp noodle. GOOD LUCK!

I got it installed guys! Thanks for all the help. Took it out of the freezer today and used a 2x4 and a hammer. Within 2 hits it was all the way in!

the arrow is on the side thats pressed into the pump so to chech the arrow you need to remove the ring so unless its a problem i would leave it, i think the arrow end will be chamfererd more or smething to aid install the ring itself wont be tapered or anything (well i highly doubt it anyway)

Jerry let me know that it dont matter about the direction of the arrow. So I would not worry about it.
