To Keel Guard or not to?
I had a keel guard on my boat. I was wondering what everyones opinion is on it for the ski? Does it slow it down at all on the top end ? thanks

Keel gaurd will cause drag- Drag will reduce your top speed

Depends on what your desires are and why you want to add it. We have used it on some skis and not others. It does protect the keel from some abuse but not the whole hull. It does alter the handling slightly but hardly noticable except to maybe a racer but not your average cruiser. It might scrub some speed slightly.

Thanks guys! I was just thinking about when I beach it probably 6 times on a Saturday that it will add up. I like performance and mods but also use it for the family and tubbing.

I also beach alot and it does scratch up your hull... 6 one way and half dozen the other.. I decided on performance and didn't install keel gaurd
I started being more careful when I beach my ski, i kill it far before the beach and lift&drag just far enough so she won't float awayLast edited by Alex13; 05-07-2008 at 08:27 AM.

Why dont you guys just use anchors? Its really easy, cheap, and doesnt hurt the ski.

I use anchor when by myself but when you have a 7 year old who can't touch the bottom she is not happy!
Not all the areas I stop at are a gradual slope some areas fall off fast.I have been doing what Alex said -killing it and slowly ride it in.
