"Homemade" Venturi Ring Mod
Ok its not really homemade, but I didn't pay anyone to do it. Because I can do it better myself.
I bored out my venturi for the rings using a 4 jaw chuck (with T-slots!) in an engine lathe. I drilled and tapped the 6 set screws using a Bridgeport vertical mill and an indexing head (pain in the ass!) and made the rings on our Okuma CNC lathe. I made the rings out of 6061 aluminum ($85), we have lots of scrap 400 series stainless so I can make them out of that if the aluminum isn't strong enough.
My venturi rings fit the bored venturi perfectly, maybe a little too perfect cause sometimes they are a little hard to get out. The bore of the ring taper so they match the venturi casting. The groove in the ring is tapered on each side to fit the set screw, so I am not relying on friction to keep the ring in place.
I hope these actually do something. I have at least 20 hours in this thing...

I tested my rings, it was really choppy but I was already at 70 on the speedo at 7700 rpm, I am going to my cabin this weekend so I should be able to test it on smooth water with a GPS (maybe).
Im really happy that they didnt blow out.

Ok for some reason I go fastest with NO rings in the venturi at all! WTF! 63 with an 82.5mm ring and 65.something with no ring at all. What sucks is that my ski was a hell of a lot faster before I put those race engineering block offs on. They fit so horribly that I get 2 rooster tails 3 foot high behind my ski from them. I gotta be loosing at least 4 mph from them. I'll try to see if the screw holes can be slotted or something to make them fit better. Nothing like cutting up brand new $350 parts. If they still wont fit im gonna be really pissed.
