MSX 140 stock is Ficht fuel injected two stroke, same system as the Virage TXi and Genesis i.

To create a Matrix, the entire fuel injection system and the electrical harness were removed, along with the Ficht stator, throttle body air intake, and the electric fuel pump.

The 'MSX' cylinders were retained (1192cc), but the cylinder heads were changed from the fuel injection type to special 'Matrix' heads. Tuned triple pipes, and carburetors were added, with a Virage TX stator and electrical harness.

I think the CDI ignition was specifically calibrated for the Matrix engine.

There are actually several variations of the Matrix engine; the Polaris 'production ready spec' original, a higher compression Factory Pipe version, and several different cylinder heads.

Side note: MSX 110 and MSX 150 were 4-stroke, Weber two cylinder turbocharged engines.

The 1192cc MSX engine is an evolution of the 1165cc red engines. Different cylinders and pistons.

    Parts

OK...thanks for the info. Are the parts for the MSX 140 engines hard to find? Pistons, cylinder?

Not cheap, but still available new from Polaris.

There seem to be more 1165cc (red motor) used parts floating around than used MSX 140 engine parts, since the 1192cc engine was only used for two years in PWC production, in one model (MSX 140), while the 1165cc red motor was used in several models 1999-2004, and the same pistons/cylinders were also in the 800cc twin (I think ).

I think there is some MSX 140 engine parts crossover to certain Polaris snowmobile engines, and some of the 1165cc parts also work in the 1192cc engine. Crank shaft is very similar, I believe.

Where are you now located? Do you have a COO for the hull? I'll be going right through your old hood (Castaic) tomorrow, wish you were still there for a peak.

Too bad, I passed his old place twice today-would have been nice to see what he had hidden.
