Anyone ever adapted a regular truck toolbox to their trailer
?
I've been looking at various truck sites and have determined that one of the plastic Delta toolboxes would fit well at the front of my double trailer. If the included mounting brackets wouldnt work, I was planning on drilling through the bottom of the toolbox and mounting it with U bolts.
Anyone ever redneck engineered something like this?

I have done exactly that used trailer u bolts and silconeed the heck out of them it still leaks from using the toolbox to push the trailer around so I just try not to back the trailer all the way down and heave ho the boats off.
Its nice having a place to store cover, life vests , shoes, oil for one of the 2 strokes but the best part is I always have my shamies, armorall with rags and wax so I can always do any cleaning I want to wherever I am
Go for it you will love it

Truck Box Mounted on PWC Trailer
Here are pics of a Contico Truck Box from Lowe's that I mounted on my McClain Galvanized PWC Trailer.
Very easy install.
It can be done several ways.
I was first going to use galvanized U-bolts from a Boating store until I found out how much the u-bolts were (10.99) each for 5" u-bolts.
I Went to Lowe's and found all the hardware (parts numbers listed in pic) for less then 15.00. Galvanized Too !
Contico Truck Box (49.99)
Hardware from Lowe's (14.00)
Michelob Ultra (free)
Satisfaction (priceless)
Project time (1 hour)
I did not use all 6 bolts. just 4.
1/2 Aluminum Trim Channel
Drill slightly to just to mark it.
Set box on ground to keep stable and drill all the way thru.
Push 5/16" galvanized bot and washer thru.
All 4 bolts hanging down.
Rear brackets mounted
Front brackets mounted
I made these from some 3/4" wide aluminum strap I had laying around.
I originally planned to use a large washer under the top washer.
You can use just the washers, but I decided to use straps on top too to help distribute the mounting surface are more with these.
Larger washers can do the same effect.
Just place a larger washer under the top washer to give it more surface are to hold to.

Billy,
Consider turning the box opening around backwards. The wind really plays havoc on this box lid. I had one before my aluminum one...and loved it. I swapped it around so the lid was facing backwards, after ripping it off the first one.

Your box made the best workbench you could ask for, while at the lake. It kicks arse... and it's HUGE. When I wear out my aluminum box, I'm going back to Lowes and getting another plastic box.
