Carbon Ring and rubber bellows
First the obvious....I'm fairly new to the SeaDoos. I am replacing and checking many things on a 05 GTX-SC (32 hours) I bought just a couple months ago. In the process of changing the driveshaft, seals....It appears that the only thing keeping water out of the inside of the boat where the driveshaft enters is a carbon ring to support ring friction seat/seal .
Is that for real? WOW
I also noticed that the carbon ring opening for the shaft is a bit more than slightly ovaled. My new carbon ring is on the way so I don't know if it is supposed to be perfectly round.
It is hard to believe that the seal between the support ring and carbon ring is provided by force from the rubber bellows.
I noticed some chips in the carbon ring around the sealing edge next to the support ring sealing flange.....Now I see why so many install the bilge pumps....On my way to Boaters World!

There is also a c-clip which holds things in place. I would get one of them as well. Like $10 bucks or something.
