SL 650 MFD Retro-Fit
Hey guys, I recently purchased a sl650. To my suprise it had a MFD gauge in it (which was not working). This weekend I decided to trouble shoot the MFD as I like to know how much fuel I have left. ( I rely on the MFD on my sl 750 right now) I opened the electrical box to look for the fuse....suprise, suprise, nothing there. The previous owner installed a MFD gauge, and a fuel tank sender, and that's all. The MFD does not even have a plug in the back. I swaped the MFD with my 750 and it works fine. So I have a couple of questions.
1. Where can I easily get the MFD plug.
2. When retro fitting, is it easier just to run a fused wire directly to the battery for power and ground.
3. Can I just properly( soldered, dielectric grease and shink wrap) splice into wires for the RPM pick-up or should I bring everything back to the electrical box and make the connections in there.
Thanks

What year 650? the MFD plug/harness can be got off Ebay or anyone parting a ski out. Maybe try John Zigler. If it's a 94 or newer 650, the board has provisions for the MFD already. Always make the connections inside the box if you can. It's water tight and the sensor inputs are right there. I just did this on my 94 650.

Here is the wire diagram for a 1995 750 with MFD just install like this. Less trim if you do not have it.

Ok, I checked with john and he doesn't have, also I searched e-bay with no luck. Any other suggestions where to get the plug.

Btw, am I looking for the 12 pin or 8 pin plug?

Look at the back of the MFD,where the wires plug in,either enough room for 8 pins/wires(2 rows of 4) or 12pins/wires.Check e-bay auctions, contact sellers stripping entire skis.

More than likely you have a 8 pin. Do what he said ^^^^ and post a wanted to buy in the classifieds here and at the "other" site. I'm sure someone's parting a ski that has it.
