carb adjust 98 slxh
I've searched and looked for info on adjusting carb on 98 slxh and found some info but not for the 98.
WOT runs good, idle pretty good but have to throttle through long no wake zones, wants to die when throttle from start but can work past it by feathering and then ok.
Tried to adjust last weekend but seems near impossible to reach all 3 screws. So the questions are any tricks on access, should I screw all 3 in all the way clockwise(right) and then back off x number of turns. I think I've lost my starting point trying to do this in low light. And finally, I dropped 1 of the limiting caps in the hull and probably will never find it. Do I need it for sure or can I survive wirhout?
Thanks for the help

Have you tried the T adjusting screws? They replace the lousy screwdriver slot style and give you something you can use to know the location or turns on the screws.
I always close mine then put a small mark on the carb housing so I can have a reference point when I'm turning the screws.

have not made any changes to the screws. I just want to get it running better for now. How many turns should I start w/? I saw some 1050 info but nothing for 98 and their does not seem to be consistency between the different years.

I don't know the specs but I'm sure somebody has them.
My guess is about 1-11/8 BUT before I worried about the adjustments I'd take the carbs apart and check those pesky filters. If you have no fuel pressure or volume you can adjust the screws until you're blue in the face and be nowhere!!

I agree on the filters but went out this A.M. and made some adjustments. Backed all 3 out 1 1/8 . It seems to get through the rough spot quicker but still not right and will not idle on its own. Falls below 1000rpm and keeps dropping til it dies.
Max RPM 6360-6400 I think I should be closer to 65-6700 shouldn't I.
So here is the next question- where can I get a diagram to ID those "pesky filters" I've seen one here somewhere but it was too small to make anything out. I'm a newbie but not afraid to follow a schematic if I know what I'm looking for. Does it matter that it appears to be delivering fuel equally to all carbs when I watch it squirt?
Thanks again

The filters are in the carburators behind the diaphrams. The fuel that you are seeing squirt is just from the excelerator pump and not actually what is going through the carbs.

Yeah, that makes sense I guess I had my head you know where when I ask that one. Do you know of a schematic that is legible to show me where the diaphragm is?

The diaphragm is #9, and the fuel filter/screen is #19
