Hi
how many hours can you rack up on a reasonably well maintained 02 GP1200R before an engine rebuild is required?
and how much does this sort of rebuild normall cost?
thanks in advance guys.Last edited by izz0; 07-23-2007 at 06:47 AM. Reason: cant be clearer then this :\

Tough questions. If it was a SeaDookie I would say 100 hrs for a rebuild.
A properly maintained 1200 should go well over 100hrs no problem. There are some 1300s reported over 200 hrs.
As far as rebuild costs, depends on if its just pistons and rings, bearings, re-nick cylinders, freshen crank seals, ect.

when i bought the ski it had 42 hours on it, i got it serviced as soon as I got it to make sure all wa swell and then racked up 80 hours on it last summer , the happiest summer of my life thus far
After not riding it for a while and a freind of mine and his brother taking it out last it is running badly and by my calculations their combined weight is about 230KG's...not goodit also already had a blocked main fuel line.
i spoke with a workshop here that does a lot of performnance ski mods and the guy there told me it would probably need a " top end rebuild" his words not mine. So i am just trying to find out if he is taking me for a ride or not.
I am probably going to sell the ski to a freind and upgrade to an 06 model (maybe) but even if i sell it i want it to be in good running order so I can sell it for a good price.
I know it needs a service badly but this mechanic mentioned something about there been known issues with the pistons and rings on this year model and that they quite often need to be rebuilt after 100 hours or so....i dont know if this is true or not and its why i am asking you guys.

Whats your compression start there.
Then investigate fuel filters/carbs.
If comp is good its not the rings if its down then yes.

At 200 hours on my Stage 2 1200 I was well overdue for a new set of rings. Everything else looked good.
