yamaha are currently using an O2 sensor in their 2 stroke boat engines (HPDI V-Max V6).

First, those narrow band sensors are junk - nothing but flashing lights that don't tell you much.
I use a wideband Innovate in my Lightning (not cheap - $450), and it's wonderful. You can perform datalogging, etc. But the Bosch sensor would live about 10 seconds in a 2-stroke environment. Too bad, I wish we could use them.

Not True, we use them regularly on the snowmobiles (2 Stroke) and they work fine. Life of the O2 sensor will be lower maybe 50 to 100 hours. Install tune then put plug in the bung.

Thank you. I mentioned this to someone not too long ago and I think they thought I was crazy. I have been talking to a person that owns a dyno about an O2 sensor on a 2 stroke, so they called a company and they told them that there are 2 options.
1. Set the O2 sensor back out of the main exhaust stream, which will keep the oil off of it, but it not NEAR as accurate
OR
2. Bite the bullet and just replace them every so often.
If you put them in just to check A/F ratio on a set up and then removed it it wouldnt be so bad. Then when weather conditions changed drasticly, you just put it back in and tune from there.
I know you wouldnt want to leave one in for the life of the ski, but it would be a GREAT tuning tool. I have a spare stinger and I may talk to someone about welding a bung in it and go from there.
