Plasma TVs
I know plasma TVs arereally awsome looking and have a great picture but i hear a lot of rumors about how short of a life span they have. A friend of mine told me some only last 2 or 3 years. I'm looking at a Philips 42" plasma for $2000. Is it really worth it?

What mostly worries me is the lifespan. I know they don't last as long as normal tube TVs but 2-3 year is not good at all.

I have got a 50" Pioneer Elite and that thing is on from 7am till 10pm most days and have never had an issue. Never plays games on them and never leave them on with a fixed picture( like a DVD menu screen) They will burn into your screen.

I have been looking into them for a year now and haven't bought yet because I am waiting until HD comes into my price.
The life span has grown. Most are 30,000 to 60,000 life hours of it being on. Count that, that is one heck of a long time.
Panasonic has the best plasma out. They have has proven track records and consumer reports rates it number 1.
Pioneer is awesome, but has a huge price tag. Same as Sony. But for the money panasonic has them beat hands down.
Just a note.
LCD is lighter, Doesn't run Hot like a plasma and uses less energy. So are you gonna hang it?

Its the bulbs or back light that go out, they can be replaced but its pretty expensive...like a couple hundred bucks.

tripple LCD... HDTV
blew away the quality of the plasma EDTV... there's alot of tv technology out there now, don't get fooled. with a $2-3k plasma, ur not getting HD technology in the plasma
we have a family friend in the business of appliances, tvs, etc.... kinda a technology geek if u will, and knows anythign and everything about TVs.
for the price, that SONY HDTV Wega tripple LCD was a steal, PHENOMENAL picture quality.
you WANT hdtv, trust me.... don't settle for less, the quality is night and day. most plasmas that are affordable priced are ENHANCED DEF, not High def.
