    Carbon Ring Question

    is this the piece that is silconed into the hull and the driveshaft floats in it? if it is how can the shaft burn it up?

    no it's not... that's jsut the thru-hull for the driveshaft.

    the carbon seal is a piece that looks like charcoal... it's between the metal ring and the rubber accordion boot. the carbon seal slides into the front of the accordion boot and is clamped in there

    the metal floating ring spins against the carbon seal...

    pictures are worth a thousand words. From left to right, on and off the drive shaft you have the accordion boot, carbon ring, and floating ring.
