Oil Filter
I am changing the oil in my ultra and the dealer provided me the 16097-003. Once again, they did the first service on it and the oil filter that I just removed is bigger and the number on it is a -004. The SM and IPB call for the -003. Besides size is there in functional difference between them? Could it affect performance?

The pressure relief valve is the only internal difference. The housing is also designed to withstand higher pressures.
I would not advise using the -004. I as well as others have researched this well. Don`t take a chance with the 004 filter. You could find yourself with internal engine damage.Last edited by Big Red Monster; 07-02-2007 at 11:40 PM.

he already had the -004 on there. It's all good, just use the -003 from now on, until someone says different.
Kinda like how the news tells you your going to die from eating something, then it's healthy a year later. Damn Communists

The reason you had a 0004 filter on there because the dealer didn't have an Ultra filter so they put on a 15F filter. So they could have caused an issue and if a failure did ac-cure then the filter surly would have been to blame.
Use the 0003. Stay with that filter and even if you do hear of a better dont use it. Stick with the 0003. Its warranty safe and meats the flow requirement of this motor.
