Universal Starter Relay
Has anyone tired to use like a MSD PCW starter relay to repalce the dying Polaris one? I ask becuase they are a rip off to get a OEM starter relay for like $70 plus shipping if you can make one from lets say from any marine system work? You can get a new relay for a boat for like $15. I really do not care if I have to moust it outside the case. They seam to all basicly be the same 2 big lugs to battery +/switch and stater 2 small ones for ground and switch. I know the Polaris starter fits Kawasaki's and Seadoo's also so the realy must be sort of univesal.
Thanks

You have
power in
power out
start switch in
ground
I'm pretty sure they work the same so if you could find one that fits, I'll bet it works.
Let us know what you find and if/how it works.

You should be able to use one with no problems. I would use one from an older ford truck as they are a peice of cake to install. Just make sure you coat it down with a lot of eletrical greaser to keep down on the corrosion.

Starter relay $39.95
This is the same as OEM, and I use it on many different watercraft. http://www.watcon.com/Catalog_Pages/Starter_Relay.htm
Thanks,

All starter solenoids accomplish the same the thing - it's essentially a big relay. I took my new (gasp) Sea-Doo out this weekend and it had a dead solenoid. Dealer didn't have any for their whopping $89 so I went to Carquest planning on getting a solenoid for a Jeep CJ. I figured I'd just make it work. I walked over to their lawn/marine section and there it was.. almost exactly the same. Small, compact, and just a tad taller. Only difference was the wiring - the Sea Doo used a wire for ground, whereas the one from the store used the base for ground and had a single spade terminal for the + from the start button.
I'll see if I can find the package with a part number. It was $10.39.

That's the one from my Sea - Poo!
There's tons of them that will work on Ebay:

I was just stuck in hill-billy USA and needed instant gratification.

Careful you guys, too small or cheap and you could be sacrificing an electrical melt down or a very short solenoid life.
Starter solenoids have an amperage rating as do fuses, don't go too small.
I've seen the cheapies melt down an entire electrical box.
I'm not saying you have to use the 90 dollar factory unit, which is designed for water (as are most auto units) but be careful with your choice.
