Post RiDE Failure at 10 hrs

I have a 2022 GP1800R SVHO Riva Stage 1+, just did the 10 hr service and went out for the day.... The shaft from the RiDE motor that controls the trim arm sheared off completely. My dealer is submitting the warranty claim, but I am curious how common a problem this is? I could just be super lucky to get a random defective part, although the metal looks like cheap cast aluminum. Other options are that it is a design flaw or Yamaha got substandard metal stock due to supply chain issues.

Checked with Riva and apparently they have sold 6 of the shafts this year, but I am guessing Yamaha will replace the whole RiDE motor assembly if they warranty it. So, those six shafts sold are probably to guys out of warranty.

I really don't want to be replacing this more than once, but if Yamaha warranties it and it fails again I would consider getting a new shaft custom milled out of better metal. Has anyone done this?

The RiDE motor units are generally regarded as quite reliable, with few failures reported since they were introduced in 2015.

A few reports of motor or bearing failures caused by water ingress getting past the shaft seals.

Yours is the first I have read about a metal shaft on a RiDE unit actually breaking.

Did the complete shaft failure occur while riding?

Is it possible the jet pump nozzle was somehow impacted prior to the failure, perhaps by reversing the trailer into a solid object?

Yep, it happened with normal riding.
