Riva Sponsons adjustment on GP1800
Hello, just purchased the Riva Pro-Series Sponsons for my 2018 GP 1800
I watched some videos, but I do not seem to find more detailed explanation on how to position the sponsons.
From what I understand, there are a few positions to play with
Thank you gus

Which generation of Riva Sponsons, the originals (aka Gen 1) or the more recent Gen 2 version?
You have SVHO engine in your GP1800?
Any upgrades to the other wet parts (impeller, intake grate)?

And about the second question, yes: Maptunner, Impeller 13/20, air intake, full exhaust system, steering system, blow off valve

The deeper you position the sponsons in the water the better it will grab the water. Be careful when their in deep, it will grab hard enough to throw you. Lift them up and it will slide a bit. I keep mine in the middle setting.

RY26120 would be the Gen 2 version of the Riva sponsons for GP1800R SVHO
2018 was the last year for the GP1800 SVHO. I have 2017 GP1800 SVHO.
2019 introduced the GP1800R SVHO
2019 was also the year when the VXR was renamed to GP1800R HO
That 2019 onwards R designation includes a bunch of OEM changes. Ride plate, intake grate, even the hull internal weight distribution is different with the newer hulls.
The thread linked below touches on some of our observations regarding how the pre-2019 GP1800 SVHO interacts with the Gen 2 Riva sponsons. This summer we hope to do some more comparisons.

This link shows some comparison photos between the original Gen 1 Riva sponsons for GP1800 (RY26110) and Gen 2 (RY26120)

I just noticed at the Sponsons' description there was something showing 2019 and up
Does that mean that these are no good for my 2018 GP1800?

The Riva sponsons will physically bolt onto multiple models and years going back to 2011. Click on the Riva Compatibility tab to see the list.
Sponsons affect the way the hull interacts with the water. Different sponsons and different hulls will create different interactions and hull ride characteristics.
My current take is that the newest version of the Riva sponsons may work well with the GP1800R hull, especially the 2021 onwards. I have not had a chance for much seat time on the 2021 GP1800R.
On the 2018 VXR hull we found the handling effect with the Gen 2 sponsons to be, um, variable. On our 2017 GP1800 SVHO we currently prefer the Gen 1 sponsons. As I said, we hope to do some more comparisons when the water thaws later this year.Last edited by K447; 01-28-2022 at 11:14 PM.
