My dashboard is dead....1100 ZXI 1998

I bought this used and it runs fine, but dash is not working.

Recently I replace motor in trim system since motor was corroded.
When I push the trim buttons I hear a relay, but nothing.

Looks to me that the trim connects to an external box and maybe that also controls the dash

    Any suggestions?
    Fuses look good.

has anyone ever heard of a "joint connector"?

    it's on the schematic.

it looks like a cap for a plug, but inside the cap are a bunch of pins that distribute power from one group of wires to another. I think there are 2-3 of these.

One of mine had lots of corrosion plus a one of the pins is hanging by a thread. Probably why there is no power to dashboard.

Black and Gray. Having trouble locating these unless you want to buy a complete wiring harness.

It's been a while since I last worked on one of those.

You're saying that the trim indicator doesn't move? Do you have a service manual? The trim will only work when the engine is running, or within about 30 seconds of shutting it off.

the entire dash and trim seems dead. Yes, I have a service manual.

I hear a relay cycle when I push up or down

my guess is that power is not being distributed in one of those caps

Have you tried the trim system troubleshooting procedure as specified in the service manual?

    Not yet....but will.

Just as big of a concern is the entire dash has no power.

working on both....I am not sure if there is anything common to both

Probably a bad ground connection on the plug that feeds the black & white wires. The trim gauge is not connected to this ground circuit.

The trim circuit is pretty much isolated from the main electrical system.

this sounds reasonable to me (bad ground). Look at these caps, especially one in my hand. this one had corrosion on 2-3 pins and one of them is hanging by a thread.
Also....when I look at the schematic, there is a ground wire also going to battery. I found that wire, but really think it's this cap. I have cleaned it up before these pictures.

with exception to the trim, it seems to me that when I turn the power on, something on the dash should come on.
