    2009 RXT IS255 sounds like a diesel

    Hi,

    New here and wondering if anyone has any ideas on what might be making my motor sound like this. Iv recently transplanted a 2009 Seadoo RXT IS255 into a 12 foot aluminum jet boat. Everything was running perfectly until a couple of days ago when it started sounding like a combination between a diesel and a tractor. The motor only has 39 hours on it.
    I pulled the valve cover and all the springs and rockers look good. I stuck my fingers in the supercharger and I can not freely spin the supercharger, which from reading forums sounds like it is not the washer? I did a compression test and cylinder 1 is down.
    Cylinder 1- 80psi
    Cylinder 2 - 120psi
    Cylinder 3 -130psi
    I donít want to get too deep too quick, but thinking maybe poison rings??

    any help would be much appreciated.

    Sounds like the engine is hurt.

    Direct inspection (engine cylinder head removed) of the damaged (low compression) cylinder will show you how much damage. A borescope looking inside through the spark plug hole might give you some clues.

    I will suggest not running or even cranking the engine any further. It seems unlikely to repair itself.

    Thanks for your reply. I’ll pull the motor and start taking it apart.

    Before taking it apart I would highly recommend doing a leak down test. That will tell you if your issue is in the valves not seating properly, or if it's piston/rings.

    Ya, you never know if a bit of the intercooler broke off and is stuck on a valve seat

    You could also put a teaspoon of motor oil in #1 to see if there is any improvement, which would point to rings being the problem

    Thanks to both of you for the info.

    I will do a leak down test and put oil in #1 to see what is going on
