    GPS Tracker

Any recommendations for a GPS tracker which runs of the PWC's battery (i.e. doesn't need separate charging).

Are there models which integrate with the throttle to cut it according to geofencing (harbours, beach, too far from coast etc).

    Lowest cost PAYG sims ?

    thankls,

There are several older threads discussing GPS ‘tracker’ products.

Most are focussed towards post-theft recovery and sometimes real-time tracking during the theft transport.

Why is it important that the vehicle 12 volt battery be involved?

The Spot Trace product, as an example, runs 3-5 months on a set of four AAA Lithium disposable batteries. Takes just a few minutes to install a fresh set of batteries every few months. No external power connection, no wiring, very compact unit that can be tucked away inside the hull.

The Spot Trace also has the interesting feature that it does no utilize the mobile/cellular system at all. It is entirely satellite enabled. Which means it can report location from outdoor areas that have no cellular signal at all.

You may find that the theft deterrent, theft recovery function may be a separate product to whatever you need for interacting with the vehicle control systems for geofencing purposes.

Geofencing is essentially a real-time thing whereas theft tracking is often somewhat time-delayed.

I have used a Spot Trace in the past the tracking with the phone app is decent, don't connect it to the main battery as it will drain it over time if the ski is not used regularly stick with the internal AAA's as K447 mentioned. The Spot Trace has a docking mode so it has to move out of a certain geofence radius before it will send coordinates so it doesn't drain the battery when used on a boat sitting in the water.

I still have the unit but it's no longer activated I got tired of the plan cost BS from Spot the yearly fee kept going up then they had the option to activate for a short term with additional fees which was not bad but the yearly call to negotiate the fees and the credit card auto renewal pissed me off so I cancelled everything. I would like the tracking for peace of mind for a two week vacation once a year the rest of the time my ski is in my sight or in a locked garage.

Like this, unfortunately they do work. I used to pay for a subscription based service on my M5 until these devices defeated it.
