Water in the pump cone and bearings...now what???
Well I just took off the pump cone and it was filled with milky colored water. The grease is now all gray and pasty. I have not pulled the prop yet. It wasn't like this one week ago when I checked it. Are the bearings shot? Is the pump going to need to be rebuilt?
What should I do and where do I start.

If it has only been a week, it will be fine. Just clean it out well and get a new tube of grease. Dont you fret buckaroo

Well I would deffinately put new bearings in, your spinning that shaft at 8000+ rpm's and if they decide to come apart you could have even more of a disaster on your hands. Sorry to hear about that

There is also play in the prop. It moves back and forth a little bit in the pump along with the shaft it spins onto that goes through the bearings.
How much does a whole pump rebuild cost? I'm guessing a lot.

That happened to mine 2 weeks ago. I took it to a dealer for them to rebuild. It is covered under my extended warranty.

Didn't take them long to do the rebuild. They just had to order the parts.

A little play is normal. It has only had water in it for a week. Clean it out, get new grease and run it. I wouldnt worry about it. I have gotten water in mine as well. I also run it at 8600 rpms with NO issues. Dont fix things until they break. Clean out as much grease as you can, spray the crap out of it with wd-40 to displace any moisture, drain that out, new grease and go.
