    fx160 wear ring replacement, sealant / grease / gasket sealant?

    Hi.

    what are people using on the mating surfaces when fitting a new wear ring on a fx160?
    sealant? Grease? Gasket sealant? permatex? Nothing?

    I don't use any sealant. Just bolt the pump together.

    I'm with Mittens....no sealant or grease, just bolt the pump parts back together. Not sure why Yamaha even uses the sealant on the pump, they are all flanged together.

    Sorry, but are you talking about general sealing of the pump parts. Or sealing/glue for the new wearring against the impeller housing?

    I bought a brand new Yamaha SX230 HO back in 2006. Same pumps, but no sealant between the sections.

    If you ride in salt water, the salt buildup can almost fuse the sections together. That's where sealant might be a good idea. Yamabond works great and allows for easy disassembly and cleanup.

    I've also used marine grease with good results.
