I got some Wiseco (Japan) bearings. When measuring them they are about 6-7 thousanths shorter than the ones that came out. Inner and outer are the same. Any worries with these? I don't think so but thought I'd put it out there. Crankworks should be done on Monday - Wednesday before Turkey day. I should be starting this rebuild first week of December.

Finished putting the carb rack back together. Setup for the dual feed and return has the 95 main jet installed on the RH side. Highs at 1 5/16 and lows at 1 1/16 just a hair rich on Oside bill recipe. Crank should be on its way any day now.

Question: my cylinder jugs are as received with nikasil plating all around, should I paint the exterior black or leave them silvery?

If you leave them bare use S100 corrosion protectant on them to prevent corrosion. I used it on my bare Harley engine and it kept it looking new.

Thx Jonesy, I did paint them tonight, just some rattle can black engine paint cause I can't do audacious colors and running low on budget.

And I got my crank in today. No more waiting. My goal is to hear it run before Christmas, and really within the next two weeks. Ready to do this!

Do yourself a huge favor after assembly, do a leak test before dropping it into the hull. Sucks to have to pull a motor back out due to a leak (with potential costly failures and more work), ask me how I know... Lots of guys don't, I'll never build a motor again without doing such a simple test to assure all is well in that dept. Enjoy the build, you're at the fun part

That leak down test is in the plan. I am doing as much homework on this project as I can, I'd like this build to last several seasons.

It doesn't feel like I got much done, but I am just taking my time (what little time I have when I get home). I got the powervalves all installed in the cylinders and the anodes put in too. Hoping to make a lot of progress this weekend though.

Alright, I put myself into a slight holding pattern. I had originally bought a set of crank seals from SBT when I started tearing this down. After much research, I have ordered some OEM yamaha seals instead. I couldn't make myself comfortable with the SBT ones at this point. So this weekend I'll be doing everything else I can to prep the build but won't be putting it back together like I had hoped. Still shooting for some smokey noise before Christmas though.

Hopefully I have appeased the Oside Bill & Gods of rebuilding. I spent today chasing all the threads and thoroughly cleaning the cases. I've been an aircraft engineer for many years and told my mechanics to chase threads all the time, but for whatever reason I haven't done it much myself. To be honest, this was a bit of a chore. My wrist and shoulder are sore, but the mess that came out was worth it. Do the job right the first time guys.

The crank seals should come in this week and I can start bolting it back together. I got the reed cages all rebuilt with new reeds yesterday and I can't think of much else to do at this point. Cheers and Merry Christmas to you all.

And special thanks to my local CFO, who lets me put engine parts on the kitchen counter for photos.
