    Recommended Oil. SVHO newbie.

First time SVHO owner 2014 FZR. I bought it with 83 hrs. Has 105 now, It does have a new yamaha engine replaced by dealer at 36 hrs. Its has a stage1 torx tune and ribbon delete. Owner wasn't sure what oil was last used. He said 20/40
Or 20/50, yamaha recommend 10/30-10/40-20/40-20/50. Not really ask for oil brand. But what viscosity? If this has been hashed out please send link. Thanks

What region are you riding in?

Super hot or rather temperate water and air temperatures?

YamaLube 4W (not 4M) is the OEM oil and seems to work quite well in the SVHO engine. Myself and several friends have hundreds of hours per SVHO engine with zero oil related problems to date.

The Yamaha supercharger sprag clutch has some specific requirements for the oil. There are aftermarket oils that are compatible with the clutch but I have not encountered a compelling reason to deviate from the YamaLube.

YamaLube 4W is for the 4-stroke Watercraft with a jet pump.

YamaLube 4M is for the Yamaha outboard Motors.

The photo I posted is simply showing the packaging differences for the 4W YamaLube sold in Canada vs. USA.
Both show the waverunner and Yamaha jet boats on the label.

I use 20W-40 regardless of environment. It has treated me right. It has better viscosity 15+ hours than the 30.

Oil was really dark when I used 10w-30 at 20 hour oil change.

Hi thanks for repling everyone, I know this has been hashed out to death. I ride Lake st clair. Michigan There is alot of deep channel water. Average temp I'd guess is in 60s , bays warm up to mid 70. I going with a motorcraft 400 or 910. OG owner said he ran 20/40-20/50. He couldn't remember. He was in a resivior in Kentucky. Man made lakes. Mods are ribbon delete and a torx stage 1 tune. TIA.

I have ridden that area many times, mostly the northern portions1 of Lake St. Clair and the river delta areas around Harsen’s Island.

YamaLube 4W oil will be just fine.

We ride in a wide range of air and water temperatures. Always using YamaLube 4W. About 340 hours now on each SVHO engine.
New Motorcraft FL400S oil filter with each oil change.
