Pump Tunnel Crack on XL1200
Well, seems like I have the GPR symptom on my XLL. Was taking on water and looked at the pump tunnel and there is a crack. I guess I have been lucky until now considering what I have done. Any suggestions? I read the GPR pump tunnel reinforcement, but I have an epoxy bond to the back wall. Should I remove that? Also, how should I repair the crack?

not to get too far off the subject, but in the pic i see you have jet works installed. Did you see much gains on your xl1200 with it?

Here are some pics....I need your help, what should I do? Do you think I should remove the epoxy that glues the tunnel to the rear transom wall and re-fiberglass the whole area? Let me here your thoughts.

Man, I'm no expert, but a couple of thoughts crossed my mind.
-Don't use the R/D support without repairing those cracks.
-If you make your own support, go carbon fiber with AT LEAST 6 sheets, wrapping all the way down and into the rear wall.
-I'd remove the rear epoxy, since you really don't know if there are stress fractures under there as well.
Good luck with that!!!

Thank you Mark.
How would you suggest repairing the cracks? MarineTex?
I was going to make my own support and wrap it with Carbon Fiber. Any recommendation on which fiber and where to buy it?

You need a SMC expert to comment. I am not that person. My thoughts are to just get it as clean as possible, and rough it up with a wire wheel, especially around the damaged area.

need to find a REPUTABLE smc guy here in NJ...I dont think I would mess with that one....looks ugly.
time to install an extension on that pump and releive the pressure....your pipes finally caught up to that hull.
all that spidering is unreal....
you may want to call Carl and ask if he knows of any reputable SMC guys in his neighborhood....im sure he has had a few of these repaired in the past...maybe not though....i dunno.
i dont know any....only because i havent had to look for one!
the cracks need to be stopped (terminate each end of the large crack with a small drilled hole). if you just cover them up they will probably keep spreading....imho...CONSULT WITH A PRO!!
