Very interesting point regarding the helmet and headset although I don't feel comfortable wearing it especially with the limited fields of vision and the kind of rides I do, based on the feedback I will try a helmet and see how it feels.

I am looking I to the house battery installation in the 310 as well as the wiring insulation and connectors which seems to have several good solutions but the house battery location is still a challenge, ideas?

Anyone installed a different sound system in the original factory location? I am considering the JBL PRV275.

    iPhone XS Max, hand held.

No floating case, so um, yeah - don’t drop it …

Not sure whether I was recording in 4K 60 mode.

What helmets are you guys using? Do they need to be water-specific?

I have a spare new road motorcycle helmet I could maybe put to use. I can't imagine needing impact protection since I legally can't even go closer than 60 metres to anything harder than seaweed. However, protection from the elements might be nice, as cruising over 50mph between the islands causes windburn after a while, and then there is the tropical sun and the noise as well.

Thing is, I might look like a bit stupid at the local marina climbing on with a helmet lol...

Two of the riders in that video clip are wearing Fly Racing Trekker helmets (couple of model years old). One rider is wearing an open face Fly helmet (I forget the exact model) and she wears riding goggles with it.

There are no PWC specific helmets. Most are adapted from motocross and similar motorsports.

Once you stop worrying what other people are (or might be) thinking about what you are wearing, life gets less complicated.

When we started riding with helmets, we got lots of looks and questions. Each year we encounter more recreational riders wearing helmets. Not yet a majority, to be sure, but not so unusual now.

Wind noise is reduced, and riding in rain at speed no longer stings.

Impacts can happen, even in open water. Many of us have encountered a large wave we did not notice coming until the last instant, and sometimes the hood comes up fast as your body lurches forward and that hood (or handlebars, or the mirror) wants to kiss you on the mouth. Hard.

… while trying to reboard in deep water, my elbow slipped on the gunwale and I face-planted hard into the slick painted surface, ricocheting backwards. Gratefully, my Fly Racing helmet kept me from thousands of dollars in dental work.

Sometimes just playing hard can turn into a head impact event.

Good points. I have seen that racers wear MX helmets, and I know the Trekkers are similar to the Shoei Adventure helmets, so perhaps the height of my looking stupid will simply be that I am using a road helmet....

Hey, even snow skiers and wind surfers are wearing helmets.

I wear scuba diving boots, earplugs, and water ski gloves.

I've been thinking about neoprene shorts.

Scuba diving boots are great, I tried neoprene shorts then decided it will be too traumatic for people to see on me!

Been looking into the house battery location in the 310 based on a similar battery to the original one. I believe that the best location is somewhere beside/Infront or around the original battery location although the recess is made for a single and the cover restricts the headroom, thinking of having a custom cover made and installing the battery in the same orientation as the original with a bracket coming off the same bolts locations to hold both batteries.

I am avoiding the engine bay for obvious reasons.

    Thoughts?
