    Question Stuck supercharger impeller

Is there a trick you guys use to remove a very stubborn charger impeller without pushing the shaft out?

I soaked it in penetrating oil overnight, froze it, hit it with enough heat where the penetrating oil vaporizes yet this thing will not budge. Tried banging on the back of the housing, pulling up on the blades, won't budge even a thousand of an inch.

I need to remove this impeller undamaged, it's a ET142.

If you can’t remove it with heat your only option is to press it out.

i had a charger like this no matter how much i hit it with heat it would not budge. I had to press it off found out the shaft and the wheel were all marred up

Yep, exactly what happened to one of mine too. Destroyed the wheel to get it off. But as it was marred to the shaft anyway, it had to be replaced.
Oddly it was the only one i ran a BOV on. Wonder if it slipped on the shaft because of that.

I don’t think the blow off valve would cause that but I have seen one do that with the slip through the roof

If you want to drive to Cambridge or PortUnion area in Toronto I can get it pressed off for you.

Yeah I got it pressed out.

But now putting it on a new shaft it's still ultra tight. I have to really blast the wheel with a heat gun to make it fit. Are these supposed to be this tight fitment? I'm guessing with the forces this wheel sees it needs to be bonded with the shaft basically?

When I talked to art he said there was a .001 to .0012 press/interference fit. With a little heat it should slide on with some resistance but not super hard. He had also suggested trying to slide it on straight and try not rotate it as it would gal up easily.

i made an aluminum adapter to help press it on easier once it was heated
