Running 4tec without a jet pump installed

Hey all!
I am rebuilding an 06 RXT and want to know if the engine can be run without the jetpump/shaft installed?
I saw some info about people doing it with non-4tec engines. Does not seem to be an issue there.

With the garden hose running and no shaft installed there would be no carbon seal to worry about. The biggest concern would be overheating the engine but I would imagine that would take a bit. Specially since its below freezing here!

I am curious if this is a bad idea even for a few minutes - or does anyone have ways/ suggestions on how they can run their skis for extended periods out of water?

All the oil will come out the pto where the drive shaft goes. I don’t recommend it

This is the setup I made keep the carbon seal cool. A little tricky to position, but works great. Ideal to use when running the engine up to temperature before an oil change.

So I see you have one spray pointed at the back end of the carbon seal- Check!
The other into the flush port - Check!
What about the pump itself and perhaps the ride plate? Can I just add two more hose connections and feed water into the pump through the plate too - and let it splash over the ride plate?
