Cheap mods for my gti 130se 2006

Hi was just wondering any mods I can do to my gti to give it a little more bhp I no my mate took a restrictor out of the air box on his newer model is it worth doing on my one? My mate has the same ski as me and he has a solus impellor and race exhaust and his deffinetely goes better. What do you recommend
