Max rpm for stock 2017 Svho retainers?
I’ve got a 2017 Yamaha Fx Svho. And was going to run 8500 rpm this upcoming summer. Is 8500 rpm safe for stock retainers. Everything else is stock except for intake and ribbon delete. Just Curious, Thanks!

8500 is fine with stock retainers over 8600 is when it becomes a concern, however your not going to be spinning 8500 with a tune and the mods you mentioned ,your going to need a prop also, pitched accordingly to your desired operating rpm

Stock retainers are brittle and subject to cracking even below 8600 rpm. Although unlikely, still possible.

from how most tunes work the number they advertise 8500. is the limiter so you will normally pull/ dial in the ski to 200 rpms below that.
so 8500 tune, pulling 8300 ish on a WOT pull.

in the past on other svho skis without retainer i hat 8650 rev limiter and it turns 8500-8600
now on my GP with retainer rev limit is 9150 and i turn 8900-9000 all the time 45 Hours now
well you need to pitch to get very close to the rev limit.... 200 rpm below....hmmm i like more 50-100 rpm below....

Well this depends on the weather summer heat will drop 200-300. so if your at 50-100 rpms off in summer, and it gets cold you all over the limiter....
if you tuning in winter/spring with cool weather then yes putch to get close to limiter, and then summer will bring you farther away.

200rpm below limiter will allow a cusion, 100 or 50rpm is not enough headroom to allow for climate changes from weekend to weekend, you can pitch for 50-100 if you have a lucky 13 and change washer config according to temps, humidity etc, but generally speaking pitched for 200rpm under the limiter is pretty common practice
