I know of stories where they did not fix it. and I also know of once where they have. I also when shopping had people tell me Yamaha fixed it. with receites, and then I check part numbers and Yamaha did not fix it to 16 chain....

My guess is if you are the original owner than Yamaha would be more apt to replace and cover more if a timing chain were to break. Its not worth the headache. Bad chain, nothing in writing from Yamaha as to how long it will be covered. I known two people with failures out of 6 that own Waverunners. So my known failure rate is 100% lol. Only two that failed were supercharged. When they shut down it is instant. Then you can keep all your fingers and toes crossed hoping Yamaha does the right thing. FK that....

Buddy and I cruising across the lake, him riding his 2015 FX SVHO. One second fine, the next not so much. He was second owner, out of warr and about 100 hours. Yamaha took care of the entire rebuild and upgrade. Took about 2 months from start to finish though. That's no fun either but feels better than out of pocket for sure.

Some are installing 4/5link chain from 2016 up, and spinning them on the stock 14-15 gears. Cheap insurance..

Only doing the chain. Nothing else? I thought you had to at least change the cam gears and guides too

I don't know as I have not done it. But I would assume change cam gears, and anything else you can other then crank. that's the PIA one.

I'm at 288hrs on my 14' thats been spinning some rpm since single digit hours. At this point in its life I'm still sold on not touching anything with the chain nor adding retainers just to not disturb my chances. 5yr warranty just ended a month back. I could care less what happens, let her blow lol
