    Looking for 1050 heads

Does anyone have 3 1050 heads in good condition that they would part with? Or is there any high compression options out there? Preferably PN 3022025 for the stock ones.
    Thanks

I am now seeing the 050 heads give more compression than the 025 heads, how is that? The deck is taller on the 050 than the 025 heads that I have. If someone could explain would be great. Thanks

Some years used the lower compression 025 head on the center cylinder I believe.

Not sure what you mean by "taller deck". Maybe post a picture of what you see.

The size of the dome mostly dictates the compression. The 050 has a visually smaller dome then the 025.

Engine rebuilders do some crazy stuff to heads. Especially "mass rebuilders" , they just attack all heads to make them "level" but mostly to reduce compression.
All SBT heads I've seen have an extra angle cut into the dome edge.

The 050 heads have 2 designs for the cooling openings, that also is obvious visually. The 025"s I've seen only have the early cooling openings.

I by taller deck I mean the thickness from the deck to the dome is more on the 050 heads than the 025 that I have, but I never noticed that the domes themselves were any different. Sorry I misworded that.

So the 050 heads will make higher compression?

I don't know all the correct 2 stroke terminology.

There is "cranking compression" and "running compression".
2 strokes are dependant on exhaust design. 3cyl single exhaust is a compromise for all 3 of the cylinders. The reason tripple exhaust makes more power is that each cylinder is tuned specifically.

In 1997 the engine designers saw something with the 1050 and needed to lower the compression in the center cylinder, so they used the 025 head only on the center.
In 98-99 they used 025 heads accross all 3 cyl and still had the same horsepower.

I THINK the problem with 97 was running compression in the center cyl. In my opinion you need to be carefull raising compression.

The stock 050 heads have 4cc less volume then the 025. Therefore more compression with the stock 050 heads.

SBT lowered compression to increase engine life. They modified all there heads, need to be able to identify them and their difference.

In that case, anybody got 3 good 050 heads laying around?

Are you working on your 97 1050 ?

What is wrong with the 050 heads you have ?

Yes its getting a full rebuild. New crank from Northern Crankshaft. New top end from WSM .25 over. Fresh cylinder bore and hone. Adding a 40mm carb rack with accelerator pump. Carbon Tech reeds. All new gaskets too obviously. 2 out of 3 of my old heads had a lot of damage, and the third was cracking around the spark plug hole. Enough damage and pitting in the other 2 was bad enough I didn't think I could smooth it out, and they're both 025 heads.

Reason for rebuild was center rod bearing coming apart at full throttle last august. Luckily it didn't bust the case halves.

I'd like 3 050 heads to start fresh and clean.
