VXR not reaching top speed

Hey guys I need some help. I've had this 2013 yamaha VXR for awhile I I it dirt cheap because it wasn't treated right. I changed oil, the filter, spark plugs and battery, and prop. It never reached anything above 42-45 mph. My yamaha VX cruiser is faster than it. I checked the air filter yesterday it was pretty dirty but I don't think enough to make it lose 20 mph of speed. Any thoughts? Has clean gas.

Try a test run without the filter and see what happens.

What rpms is it turning?

start up , no water , 30 second run time, shut off, put hand on exh manifold = feel heat on each manifold runner.
Find dead cyl and hope its a bad coil...
Also can pull glugs, put palm of hand over spark plug hole in cover, crank motor + see if each feels the same pressure.. To check for no psi in a cyl...

Run it without the air filter and see what happens. If not any better it's probably a bad coil pack.

Assuming oil level is fine.

Filter would need to be badly plugged to lose 20mph. I’d say there’s another issue, and more info is needed.

Oh damn, you might be right. Sounds about right on speed.

Try this man... Probably same procedure for your ski. Hopefully you still have the remote, that can get costly to reprogram at the dealer.

So often, it's the simple things that are missed.
