Purchase MaptunerX versus send ECU in?

Stupid question #101 - if all I'm wanting to do is remove the speed limiter on a 2021 Yamaha GP1800R SVHO (i.e. stock ski with no performance mods/hardware), should I purchase a MaptunerX + license, or should I send in my stock ECU and have it done? I'm not going to be doing any other mods, and it seems far less expensive to just send it in and have it done, but I didn't know if there were any caveats to doing it that way.

Will you always have access to the same octane grade of fuel?
91 octane or better.

Riva MaptunerX (and I presume Dean also) have tunes that improve SVHO engine power, top speed and acceleration overall with zero hardware changes to the engine. This is Stage 1 in Riva speak for their SVHO tune on GP1800.

They also offer a ‘stock’ SVHO tune with just the speed limiter removed. No improvement in acceleration and engine power, just the limiter removed.

Yes, at least 91 octane at all times - I wouldn't dream of running regular unleaded in a supercharged ski. Can I send the ECU in for the Riva Stage 1, or does that require me to purchase the MaptunerX and then the Riva tune?

My original goal was just to remove the limiter, but if there are gains to be had on an otherwise stock GP without causing any issues (warranty or otherwise), I'm all in.

That's awesome - sounds like the hardest part will be getting the ECU out of the ski.

If you don't want to pull the ECU, you could just use a SCOM and it can be removed in a few minutes if you wanted to.

Basically your options

Deans team:
$ 160 delete speed limiter, stock tune
$ 550 Full tune of your choice, no speed limiter

Riva:
$549 Mail in Tune/remove limiter
$1016 Riva maptuner Kit, with license. Can change your own tunes, or limiter only what ever. and back and forth.


I think dean was working on a way to do his tunes with out having to mail the ECU back. But have not heard anything on that in a min.
