2018 gp 1800 intake grate cracks

Good evening everybody! Was just taking my intake grate off to add the deans team bracket I’ve been moving around my tool box and came Across these cracks. Do I need to repair or is adding the bracket good enough?

On the inside everything looks good no cracks

If the Dean’s team bracket is like the oversized aftermarket reinforcement or Yamaha OEM brackets, they are intended for reinforcement of an undamaged hull.



You now have cracks and a hull repair project.
How far does the damage extend into the hull and hull material layers?

The deans team uses a oversized aluminum plate and the oem bracket.

Just picked at the crack and I can see a gray color. The inside shows no cracks.

The OEM insert brackets are still glued in place inside the hull? When those are removed you may find cracking underneath.

I took the brackets off right after and inspected the inside and i cannot see any cracks.

You wont see cracks on the inside because yamahas have a hull liner on the inside.

The reason it cracks is because Yamaha cut out the inner liner around the intake grate brackets.

Just curious what speeds are you running? Also, do you have an aftermarket intake grate?

Trying to to decide if I want to reinforce.

If you have a 2017 or 2018 GP1800 reinforcement is a must.
They are breaking even at stock speeds with stock grates
