I had an unexplained seizure on the rear cylinder of an 1100 in my Exciter boat. Never was able to figure out what caused it. I'm guess that this also applies to the 1100 engines, too, right?

I saw that article but I don’t understand why it’s there if it causes a problem. I mean, Yamaha put it in for a reason.

I have an 800 that i am rebuilding, i did this modification. Easy enough alittle jb weld, sand down to fit case and during assembly a dab of case sealant just to make sure

Dammit!!! I’m no longer on the page. Would it be possible for somebody to copy the verbiage and post it here?

I’m not familiar with the groove in question. I am wondering if we should do this to our mostly stock 1200R?

That goove there, fill it in and sand down, that groove bypasses the first crank seal.

I've wondered why that notch went all the way through the seal retaining groove myself but had not thought about filling it.

Forgive me as I don’t see it. I see three grooves there. Which one?

The slot that goes through two sets of sealing surfaces. Zooming it makes it easier to see.
