    I use the Cooper anchor...

No problem with the waves on the Gulf of Mexico at all.

My friends like them so much they all bought them!

    Good luck.

We sometimes carry them both. Which is better depends on the situation.

The Cooper is an excellent anchor for PWC. We keep ours inside a canvas storage bag along with the anchor rope and rode. Works well, especially when there is strong wave or wind action tugging on the anchor. Be sure to have enough scope to allow the anchor to set and hold in the bottom.

Screw in spiral anchor works well in semi-shallow water without large waves. The rode can be kept fairly short since there is no strong forces trying to drag it sideways.

Is a short chain needed for the Cooper? Also with a screw in anchor a short bungee on the anchor line will help...

The Cooper anchor does work better with a length of chain rode at the anchor end. I sometimes use the Cooper with just the rope rode and it works fine in non-aggressive water conditions and compliant bottom materials.

In difficult anchoring conditions the chain weight can really help the anchor bite into the bottom and hold itself in place. Stainless steel chain works well and resists corrosion. Galvanized chain is ok too.

With anchor chain it is the weight of the chain that matters, not the breaking strength. A couple of meters or more of chain.
